Abstract

Objectives: The Objectives: The emergency nature of the pandemic motivated the construction of an

integrative review that aims to gather and consolidate information on the pathophysiological characteristics of the virus, as well as measures to control the disease caused by it. Methodology: The central theme was subdivided into didactic topics about COVID-19. The database used was PUBMED including articles published from December 2019 until May 1, 2020. Results: 41 articles were selected for this review, the main results were: Definition: COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the new coronavirus SARS-COV-2. Signs and symptoms: fever was the main symptom, cough, sputum sputum, dyspnoea, headache and diarrhea were also observed. Incubation period: the average time from exposure to the virus to the manifestation of symptoms was 5 days. Transmission: the means of transmission known to date comprise airborne droplets investigating other ports of entry. Risk groups: age, sex and the presence of comorbidities are factors susceptible to developing a negative outcome in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. Non-pharmacological prevention: The use of protective masks and social isolation are measures adopted to prevent contamination by the new

coronavirus.
