The aim of the study was to identify, in the scientific literature available, important findings about
the pandemic of the new coronavirus at a global level. A search was carried out in the PubMed,
LILACS / BVS and Clinical Key databases. Full texts of original articles were included, such as cross-
sectional, prospective or retrospective studies, published between 2015 and 2020, in the world
population that responded to the research objective. Articles that did not contain any information
related to the research topic were excluded. After reading the pre-selected articles in full, 45
articles were chosen to compose the study. The articles showed that the pandemic started in China,
but has spread rapidly around the world. The difference between other world pandemics and what
is reflected from them in relation to the new coronavirus was evidenced. This review was extremely
important to fill gaps in relation to the emergence of the COVID pandemic19, the existence of other
pandemics, the types of coronavirus and how public health has reacted to this public health
problem. However, further studies are needed to expand the power of information on this very new
but so important topic.
