Introduction: SAR-COV2 identified as the causative agent of COVID-19 spread rapidly, causing the World Health Organization (WHO) to define the situation as a pandemic. To contain its dissemination, Brazil sought to adopt the WHO recommendations by creating the National Contingency Plan for Human Infection (PCNIH). Objective: To characterize the evolution of public health policy actions in coping with COVID-19, the progress of the disease in Brazilian regions and the impact on SUS. Methods: This is an integrative review, carried out on the databases: PubMed, SciELO, ClinicalKey and on the main government websites, from December 2019 to May 16, 2020. Results: The PCNIH was published in February of 2020 established coping strategies and commissions. 37 ordinances /resolutions and 5 committees directly related to the PCNIH were found. About 10 measures of actions for the dissemination of the coronavirus were found. However, it was observed that the virus spread throughout the national territory. In order to meet these demands, the federal government sought investment in beds, hiring and training health professionals, expanding primary care services and electronic service channels. Conclusion: Despite making the PCNIH, it was observed that there were difficulties in implementing the measures found to contain the spread of the virus due to the Brazilian geopolitical diversity. Thus, the adoption of uniform governmental measures is necessary, which encourages the population to follow them, bearing in mind that political polarization causes disruptions in the engagement against Pandemic.
